Hi Fellow Fae. Today I wanted to talk about one of my favorite past times: coloring! I was adult coloring before hipsters made it popular. So let's do some break downs....

Coloring Books:

A coloring book is a type of book containing line art to which people are intended to add color using crayons, colored pencils, maker pens, (pens), paint or other artistic media. They are typically focused to children. You can do connect the dots, mazes, puzzles or even decorate stickers.

Paint books and coloring books emerged in the United States as part of the "democratization of art" process, inspired by a series of lectures by British artist Joshua Reynolds, and works of Swiss educator Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi and his student Friedrich Frobel. The McLoughlin Brothers are credited as the inventors of the coloring book, when in the 1880s, they produced "The Little Folks' Painting Book", in collaboration with Kate Greenaway. They continued to publish coloring books until the 1920s, when the McLoughlin Brothers became part of the Milton Bradley Company.

Coloring books or pages can be used for educational, health and/or therapeutic uses. Muse.com has a list of 21 best adult coloring books.

I can attest to this. During quarantine I've used color pages like color by numbers and site words for Xander. I used adult coloring books for therapy to help with anxiety and depression.

Adult Coloring Books:

Coloring books are a form of adult therapy that have seen a growth in popularity in the 2010s. They reportedly bring people a sense of their childhood, and help with developing fine motor skills and vision, reducing anxiety and creating focus, and relieving stress and anxiety in a manner similar to meditation.

Design:

In design school my teacher who taught the Rendering class called it "Coloring". Finished renderings look like works of art. Done right you can frame them as art. I personally don't feel like my work to to "works of art" level but it's a goal I hold close. Since I'm not working for a firm and not currently working with clients I sometimes go online to search floor plans or furniture plans to render as practice. It's good for my portfolio whenever I do decide to jump into my field.
